But while you are here, I would like to say ‘Hello’. My name is Julie, and I am privileged to lead Independent Advocacy Perth & Kinross, the leading human rights organisation located in Perth City but covering all of Perth & Kinross.
I grew up in Perth and fell in love with the nonprofits/3rd Sector when I became a community arts worker working across Central Scotland. I worked with Young People in Housing Sustainment Projects, a change from running my own business previously, but another artist inspired me to use my skills for good instead of for the private sector. I quickly developed a deep passion for charitable work because I was with people, and our conversations developed through the art of making.
This resolve has stuck with me throughout my career at IAPK, leading me to embrace the challenge of leading the organisation since 2022. Building a culture of a kind, non-judgmental practice, placing understanding and acceptance at our core drives me and I am happy to spend my days striving to make Perth a fantastic place to live, one day at a time.
